Not Impressed Sep 10, 2008 I have a collectors car that the battery kept going low in while its not driven much. On reading and researching trickle chargers, the Schumacher got excellent reviews from several people. I ordered the unit, and when it arrived I found that it had no instructions. Having worked on cars a bit I figured out how to hook the unit up. First thing to mention. There are two different connectors that come with the unit. One is alligator clips as found on jumper cables but a little smaller, used for short term use, and the other are two brass loops used to attach the hook up permenently to the battery posts. The loops holes were so small, they would not fit anything without extensive drilling and enlarging. That took about an hour of my time. The battery we were attempting to truckle charge was holding just enough charge to get a quick ratcheting from the starter, but not enough to turn the crank. So we hooked up the unit and expected to see a yellow light indicating a low charge and that the trickle charger was working. We got a yellow light for all of 30 seconds, then it switched to green. Without instructions, I was not sure if this was correct or not. We left the unit hooked up for 24 hours and decided to see how it worked. Didn't to a thing. The battery was no more charged than when we hooked it up to this unit. I am very dissapointed, and don't think I'd recommend the unit to anyone.

GREAT PRODUCT Jul 26, 2008 Have the same product under the Sears name; just left it outside too long in the rain; so I am getting another for the John Deer lawn tractor.
Great price and this is the best charger that You can get at the price. The floating funtion that will not allow for overcharge is a must have feature.
Great charger.
Schumacher battery companion SEM1562-A Jul 26, 2008 Schumacher battery companion (charger-maintainer) 1.5 amp 1562a
Best customer service anywhere! I purchased a Schumacher battery companion in 2007. In July 2008, I noticed the amber light was on and the water was boiling in my motorcycle battery. The battery was approximately one year old and I was not sure whether the battery was unable to fully charge or the float mode on the charger was not cycling. I fond the Schumacher customer service toll-free number on their home page, called them, spoke with Jonathon, explained the situation, asked his opinion and he stated that it would be best not to take a chance. Although he had never seen a problem like this in their product, he requested that I return the unit to Schumacher, attention Jonathon, and he would replace it with a new one. I explained that I had not previously mailed the registration or warranty, had misplaced the pigtails and instruction sheet, etc., he said not to be concerned about that. I shipped it to them and believe it or not, they sent me a brand new one, complete with all accessories! I still do not know whether their unit was malfunctioning or my motorcycle battery was developing a short (I replaced that, as well). I have never experienced such great customer service. As far as I'm concerned, their product is top of the line and their customer service is excelled by none! P.S. Also works with AGM batteries.

Good maintenance charger Jun 14, 2008 It does the job I got it for, which is keeping a stored vehicle's battery charged up. It is not made for charging a dead or really drained battery. I just plug it into the battery connector every couple of weeks, and let it charge for an evening. I guess one can leave it on all the time, as it stops charging automatically, but I don't feel comfortable with that, and I don't know if it uses electricity when it's idling. I like the dual voltage, as one can use it on car or smaller batteries, like for a lawn tractor. I give it four stars for the lead content in the cords. The instructions tell you to wash your hands after handling them. They must have a lot of lead in China! Is it in everything they make?
